Key and Peele Blog Response

So I'm now obsessed with Key and Peele. The videos that Ryan linked in his blog were so funny, I had to explore Comedy Central youtube videos to see what I've been missing out on. I focused mainly on the ones with Key and Peele in them, but I was so into the videos, 30 minutes flew by like 10. I found myself thinking that these were more incongruity theory, because specifically in the Substitute Teacher video, the humor he was using was one I personally wasn't expecting. I thought he was going to stop after a few times and it surprised me and kept me laughing harder and harder for the full 5  minutes. If I were one of those students I would've been so confused. In the Loco Gangsters video, I had an ah moment because Keegan-Micheal Key references The Office when he says, "This is like watching the British version of The Office, it's funny but awkward and sad at the same time", and the last lead blog post was on The Office so that comment made me chuckle as well. I really enjoyed Ryans blog post, and I like how I'm getting more comedy shows/clips to watch week after week.

  1. I feel like incongruity comes into play in Key and Peele too. I also like how you brought up the quote about the British version of "The Office" because the quote about it being awkward and sad is so true. I couldn't watch past the first episode of the British version.

  2. Yes, the British office reference is such a brilliant touch. It does seem like maybe one of the reasons the British office is not as popular is that it does have that pathetic aspect. In a sense, maybe it shows the limits of superiority? We have to be able to be able to laugh off our sense of superiority, which is easier with Michael Scott because he is just such a clown, like the guy trying to hurt himself in the Loco Gangsters skit.

  3. I really liked how you brought in the British version of The Office to compare that show to Key and Peele. When you think about it Key and Peele, they always portray characters in an absurd way, which is truly incongruity theory.
