Madelyn's Lead Blog Post Response

I remember seeing that hurricane twitter page while I was scrolling through my twitter and thinking, "Oh my gosh who would create such a thing?" But when I clicked on the profile I have to say, I giggled. I don't know why we (humans) are the way we are. What makes us laugh at something that is causing tragedy to others? I guess we experience the superiority theory without even knowing it. We personally are the ones feeling superior to the people being affected by Florence because it's not happening to us. But I believe most of us do it unconsciously, unless you're just an evil person with no feelings. I liked Madelyns post because it was different then all the other posts we've seen. I like how she included all three of the theories also because as I said in my last post I feel like almost all comedy uses all three of the theories, while it might favorite a specific one.

  1. I agree with you that people who laugh may unconsciously be feeling superior to those affected by the storm. I had never seen the twitter page before Madelyn picked it as her lead post, and I thought it was really funny.

  2. I do wonder how much of this is laughing at people in tragedy. I wonder. I'm not sure. I guess I would like to say not, that we are mocking social media and coverage, but I think you may be right that part of it is just old fashioned "it's funny since it's not me". Maybe a small part, though. Hopefully.

  3. I agree that most of us laugh unconsciously when someone else is badly effected by something. I agree that her post was different since it focused on something we all see often on social media, but don't often stop and think about it.
